‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ Debut Not Affected by MSNBC Drama

MSNBC pundit and member of the Sappho sisterhood, Rachel Maddow, snatched the walker right from under CNN’s Larry King with the debut broadcast of her self-titled show (M-Th. 9 p.m. Eastern) beating the old yakker’s own effort and coming in at #2 in the ratings for the hour.

Here are the numbers from Broadcasting and Cable:

At 9 p.m., The Rachel Maddow Show was watched by 1.54 million viewers (483,000 in news’ target demographic of 25- to 54-year-olds), according to Nielsen Media Research.

A new installment of [Larry]King[Live], with Bob Woodward talking about his new book, was seen by 1.38 million viewers (383,000 in the demo).

Fox News Channel’s Hannity & Colmes, the cable news leader at 9 p.m., was first in the time slot with 3.05 million viewers (845,000 in the demo).  (Source)

Good for Rachel. I have never been a fan but I will check out a least one airing of the show.

For the Keith Olbermann protege, getting good ratings may be the easy part. Fending off her mudslinging and backstabbing hater colleagues and vengeful staff members may be the real challenge.

Advice to Rachel: Watch your back sistah.  Watch your back.
