In case you haven’t heard — and you probably haven’t — Star Jones’ self-titled truTV (formerly CourtTV) show will no longer be in the air as of Monday, February 4. It will be replaced by the series, “Arrest and Trial”.
From Crain’s New York Business:
“‘Due to the rebranding and refocus of the network, truTV and Star Jones Reynolds have mutually agreed to cease production of Star Jones Show,’ truTV general manager Marc Juris wrote in an internal email.” (I am fixating on the “internal memo” part wondering who leaked this and for what reason. Perhaps to hasten a departure or to make it seem that she left on her own volition? Will it be a “The View” redux with all the accompanying messiness?)
Just in case you are scratching your head, Star Jones Reynolds, as she likes to be called, is the former co-host of the ABC gabfest, “The View”. She’s the bridezilla who lost nearly ton of weight by means of gastric bypass surgery which she initially denied and later admitted in a September 2007 Glamour magazine article. You remember her, don’t you? Don’t you?
And if you are confused about this new truTV channel, join the club. It’s an attempt to rebrand the former CourtTV channel. The new tag line is: “Not Reality. Actuality”. No, I don’t understand it either. The lineup seems like a lot of low brow reality fare, something akin to what MSNBC offers after 10 p.m. on weekdays. Personally, I’ve had enough of “To Catch a Predator”.
So now that her rebirth has been aborted, what will become of our not-so-dear Star Jones? Who knows? And sorry to say, who will care?
