The wait is over. Praise be to your favorite deity. I don’t think I could have held out any longer. I need a steady dose of f-ery. If it wasn’t for Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and their table flipping, ex-drug whoring, Soprano channeling nonsense, I would have ended up in intensive care. Diagnosis: An extreme lack of extreme nonsense.
No need to worry about that now. Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta (NeNe, Kim, Sheree, Lisa, and newcomer Kandi) is back. Showtime begins on Thursday, July 30 at 10 p.m. Eastern/Pacific.
It’s Party Time
In celebration of their return, I say we throw a weekly virtual viewing party.
So here’s the plan. The party will take place on Twitter. My tweetname is @cwrite101. You can follow the festivities there. BYOS (Bring Your Own Snark) and a big stack of “Ho Sit Down” cards which will be dispensed liberally.
So, on Thursday, and every week after that until the season ends, pull up a chair, get a talk glass of your favorite drank and some salty, cheesy snacks and let’s party!!!
UPDATE: For those of you on Twitter, the hashtags are #RHOA and/or #RHATL
A Run Down on The Real Housewives of Atlanta (from Bravo with my commentary)
Kandi Burruss – “Kandi is a Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter who resides in Atlanta with her live-in fiancé and six-year-old daughter Riley. She is a former member of the platinum-selling musical group Xscape, and won a Grammy Award for her work on TLC’s mega hit “No Scrubs.” (Me: Along with Tiny, T.I.’s woman). She has also written music for artists that include Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child and Alicia Keys. Kandi juggles her busy life as a single mom and hard working career woman, but also finds time to let loose on the Atlanta social scene, stepping out with members of the music industry’s elite.” (Me: I guess we will see how sistah really “gets loose”.)
UPDATE 2: Tragedy has struck The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kandi. Her ex-fiance, AJ, who made several appearances on the show, died from a head injury resulting from a brawl at an Atlanta strip club For more information, click here.
Lisa Wu Hartwell – “Lisa, a resident of a luxurious country club community in Duluth, Ga. and a busy career woman, wears many hats. She owns her own real estate firm, Hartwell & Associates, a jewelry line called Wu Girls, a baby clothing line, Hart 2 Hart Baby, and juggles a budding acting, modeling and writing career. She’s a devoted wife to husband, NFL player Ed Hartwell.
Living a fast-paced life as a mother of three, Lisa’s never-ending energy keeps her on the move. With her real estate business slowing because of the economy, her entrepreneurial spirit kicks in and she decides to launch a clothing line, “Closet Freak.” To her surprise, she finds her biological clock is ticking, and debates expanding her family by having another baby, but Ed’s NFL career might throw a wrench in the plans. Lisa is thrown into the midst of all the drama between the other housewives as old rumors resurface.” (Me: Like the one that claims she lost custody of her children to first hubby Keith Sweat because of drug use.)
Sheree Whitfield – “A single socialite (Me: Socialite? *cough*) and resident of the exclusive Sandy Springs area of Atlanta, Sheree manages her jam-packed calendar as a working mother to three children – Tierra, Kairo and Kaleigh. She is opening a new chapter in her busy life as a mom while balancing her business endeavors and social life.
Coming off a much-publicized divorce, Sheree is ready to put the past behind her and focus on being a single mom and entrepreneur. To celebrate her new life, she delves into her work, with her “She by Sheree” fashion line moving along nicely and preparations underway for a major fashion show to debut the line. With encouragement from her friends, Sheree debates jumping back into the dating game, and her relationships with some of the other housewives take a surprising turn.” (Me: “Surprising turn”? To say the least. Previews show Sheree trying to snatch the wig off of fellow housewife Kim’s head. Say what? Weren’t they fast friends last season? Oh, my do things change.)
Kim Zolciak – “Vivacious single mom Kim lives in a gated townhouse community in Duluth, Ga. with her two children, Brielle and Ariana. She has her sights set on fame in the music business as a country singer (Me: Thought she would have given that up. Her “singing” makes ears bleed and dogs in distant lands cry) and is a staple on the Atlanta social scene.
Kim continues to live life out loud. After a somewhat rocky breakup with mysterious boyfriend “Big Poppa,” she vows to enjoy life as a single woman, but her roller coaster relationship with him keeps her love life somewhat complicated. Always on the go, she continues to focus on the daunting task of launching her country music career, with help from new housewife and music artist Kandi, and also decides to create her own line of wigs. (Me: I guess she has a deal with the Dollar Store) Drama rears its ugly head as her somewhat tumultuous relationships with the other housewives continue to evolve.”
And last but not least, America’ favorite housewife. Drumroll please….
NeNe Leakes – “NeNe is an outspoken social butterfly who resides in the upscale Duluth area of Atlanta with her two boys, Brice and Brentt, and husband Gregg. She donates her time to various charities and is an advocate against domestic abuse.
NeNe continues to take the world by storm. Busy on the charity circuit preparing for her second annual event for women against domestic violence, she is also dealing with the emotional search for her biological father while taking care of her family. NeNe wrote a book on her life experiences that will be out later this year, in hopes that she can give advice to young women who face difficult issues like she did growing up. While her no-nonsense, tell-it- like-it-is approach sometimes gets her in trouble, she continues to explore her ever evolving friendships with the other housewives, with some dramatic results.” (Me: I don’t dare say anything about my Miss NeNe…I value my life)
NeNe and Kim are at it again. Recently, Kim called into ‘Watch What Happens’, a Bravo show hosted by the network’s V.P. of Programming, our dear fabulous Andy Cohen. NeNe was a guest. Well, I can’t describe it, you have watch it for yourselves. Click here for the video
And the hits keep coming…Kim Z has recorded a song, “Tardy for the Party”. To listen, click here. …Damn you AutoTune to hell for this one.
