Ready, Set, Dance: MTV’s ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ Begins Season 4 on Sunday, August 9

I’m going to make this short and sweet and let their performances speak for themselves. The following are videos of four of the nine dance crews that will be appearing on season four of MTV’s Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew (ABDC) when it premieres on its new day and time, Sunday, August 9 at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific.  Each crew will be vying for the $100,000 grand prize, the title America’s Best Dance Crew and boundless opportunities.

Without further adieu, here are the crew that caught my attention:

SOUTHERN MOVEMENT (formerly known as Team Rocky Top)  (Nashville, TN)

I will tell you a secret. Come closer…I do love some great country music. Couldn’t have guessed that one, right? I can get with old school country like Dolly Parton or the late Johnny Cash as well relative newcomers like Sugarland. I guess that’s why I like Southern Movement who call their style “Hick-Hop” and “pride themselves on being able to hang in the club one night and a country bar in the next.”  The crew hopes to “change the way America views the South and its residents.”  Too cool.

VOGUE EVOLUTION (New York, NY)

I had the privilege of seeing this crew at the New York City auditions and they were fearless and on fire.  Vogue Evolution, ABDC’s “first openly gay crew”, fuses “voguing” with hip hop and works to educate others about AIDS/HIV.

AFROBORIKE (Las Vegas, NV)

Ay dios mio. Me gusta this crew that the brings the Latin flavor.  The music in the video reminds me of New York City summers in Washington Heights, where on every street corner, out of every open window, you can hear sexy salsa rhythms.  From Puerto Rico and Cuba, members of Afroborike, want to experience the “American Dream” and hope to do so through dance.

BEAT YA FEET KINGS (Washington, DC)

This is another crew that I was able to see live at the auditions.  They had us on our feet with their unique creation — the”Beatin’ Ya Feet” dance style.  Currently known only in the D.C., the crew hopes that their style will become internationally known and replicated.  Beat Ya Feet Kings have been featured on It’s Showtime at the Apollo and on an MTV inauguration special.
