As Miss NeNe of The Real Housewives of Atlanta would say, I was a little tardy to the party when it came to watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians. After giving one episode from last season a chance, I became a fan of the K-fam, especially the K-Dash girls, Kourtney, Khloe and Kim. I delighted in their kooky antics and infectious spirit.
Kim may have been a the star, or at very least the most well-known of the K-Dashes, but Khloe with her, at times, gloriously inappropriate behavior, quickly became my favorite. She could have been a mini-me if she wasn’t several inches taller and a lot less tan.
So, I was delighted to hear that my girl, Khloe, along with her sister, Kourtney got their own show on E!, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, which premieres on Sunday, August 16 at 10 p.m. Eastern/Pacific.
Yes, America’s new dynamic duo has landed in Miami. From the opening credits, we know what it’s all about it — the K-Dash girls are young, single and ready to mingle. Their HQ is a glorious hotel suite, Hilton Hotel Bentley to be exact, located on the beach. Oh, they also pick up a couple of awesome rides — a white diamond Jaguar for Kourtney and a high end Porsche for Khloe. It’s not Calabasas baby.
And it’s not all about sand and sun. The K-Dash girls are opening new Miami-based Dash and Khloe, who has landed a gig as radio show host, is getting ready to hit the airwaves for the first time.
With the store’s opening only 4 days away, tensions are running high as you might imagine. To add fuel to the fire, Kim calls to see about the progress of the store. She’s still an owner and seems ready to exercise all the rights and privileges that come with it. Kim informs the K-Dash duo that she will be making a visit to check on things and to lend a hand with the promotional efforts for the opening.
And now things really start to heat up. Khloe is pissed because she believes that Kim doesn’t appreciate the work that she and Kourtney have already done and she believes that Kim is trying to outshine them even going so far as to call Kim an “attention whore”. (Ouch!!). Kim also feels underappreciated for all the work she has done to promote the store. And Kourtney tries to be sympathetic to the views of both parties.
From the time that Kim lands in Miami, she and Khloe go at it — hard. You know my girl Khloe does not bite her tongue. The sibling rivalry seems all too real. Famous sister who gets all of the attention and the credit versus lesser known sister who does a lot of work and doesn’t receive nearly as much credit for her efforts. In the middle is Kourtney, trying to give the two a level-headed big picture perspective.
Things go from bad to worse, so much so that Kim considers leaving and not helping at all with the opening…That’s all I’m going to tell you.
Now, moving on to Khloe’s new job as radio talk show host. She has paired up with Terrence J from BET’s 106 and Park for her show on Miami’s Y100, Khloe After Dark. The pressure is on. The show’s producer Michael Yo tells Khloe that she can’t use any of her trademark profanity on the air. Also, she has to field questions from callers who may feel free to call her out if they feel she’s doing a terrible job.
Does she pull it off? Well, let’s put it this way, nothing is going to stop Khloe from being Khloe. Also, having a sex toy expert as her first guest also helped. What didn’t help matters much is what happened during a post work celebration…Let’s say she and/or her co-host Terrance may have crossed the line.
So, what’s the verdict? For fans of Keeping up with the Kardashians and the K-Dash girls will not be disappointed. Also with the recent announcement of Kourtney’s pregnancy, which will be addressed on the series, things should get really interesting.
Is there something lost without Kim’s major presence? No, Khloe is a star in her own right with an interesting personality…to say the least. And, with Kourtney’s new development, so to speak, it seems that she will not run the risk of become overshadowed by Khloe.
Let’s face it. The K-Dash girls and their adventures are like candy for the brain…a delicious treat never to be mistaken for a meal. Sure it’s somewhat predictable. But it never fails to be delightful. The girls have their arguments but in the end you know that the sisterhood will prevail. If you are looking introspective, angst ridden 20-somethings who challenge the status quo, you won’t find them on K&K Take Miami.
Much of the appeal of the K-Dash girls and the show that they give us an inside look at a life we can only dream of. A friend of mine said she wanted to be like the K-Dash girls — get paid for being famous, wearing clothes, showing up to events, having one’s picture taken. Hell, who wouldn’t? Yes, yes, I know they have a store — two of them now. But still, ain’t no one going to convince me that most of their money is coming from selling skirts and tops.
So do you want to have a good time or not? I say, you do. Then hang out the K-Dash girls, Kourtney and Khloe on Sundays on E! Live the life without ever having to leave your home.
