It Was Fantasia for Real at the ASPCA Brooklyn Block Party

I’m not a die hard, go all out, pet lover, but the sight of a cute dog and a doting owner warms my callous heart. Recently, that heart was warmed quite a bit on a cold, yet sunny, Saturday morning at the 2nd Annual ASPCA Brooklyn Block Party sponsored by my favorite car company, Subaru.

Free services such as vaccinations and microchipping were available. You could adopt a pet if you were so inclined.  (I had to pass. Cute though they may have been, it’s all I can do to feed and care for myself. As you might suspect, I’m on the low end of high maintenance.)

Musical entertainment was provided by GRAMMY-nominated contemporary soul artist Maiysha (You’ve read about her on The Ride) and others.

And there was a “surprise celebrity guest”…

American Idol winner and reality television star Fantasia Barrino.

The star of the VH1 series, Fantasia For Real, talked to the crowd about her pet, a dog named Diva, who was recently stolen from her front yard.  Tasia, as she’s called by her fans, spoke about how animals provide unconditional love — a love you can count on when life becomes difficult and humans disappointing. Later Tasia, who didn’t perform that day, moved through the crowd, graciously signing autographs and posing for pictures all the while being videotaped for season 2 of the series. (Yes, there will be a second season of Fantasia For Real. It’s return is slated for this fall. )
